Newly tagged invest 97L has a 70% chance (high) of development through the next 7 days per the latest nhc outlook. the DEVELOPMENT chance THROUGH the next 48 hours is 30%.

Forecast models have come into agreement that invest 97L will track over Cuba, FridaY & Saturday and emerge into the southeastern GULF OF MEXICO sometime late this weekend. once in the GULF, it will have a high chance of developing into a tropical depression and then eventually tropical storm DEBBY. RIGHT NOW, CHANCES ARE LOW THAT IT BECOMES A HURRICANE. OF COURSE THE WATERS ARE VERY WARM AND IF IT SLOWS DOWN OR STALLS OVER WATER THEN CHANCES WILL INCREASE FOR HURRICANE INTENSITY.

Once the system arrives in the Eastern GULF later this weekend and early next week, steering currents may breakdown and the system could stall somewhere NEAR the coast of Florida. This could lead to a HIGH flash flood threat if this occurs. It’S too soon to know exactly where the storm will make aN EVENTUAL landfall or how strong it may get. We encourage all residents and interests in the EasterN GULF AND the SE United States to pay close attention to the system over the next several days as the forecast confidence remains low. ImpactS would occur beginning Sunday into early next week. For our Texas friends, at this timE we do not see the steering currents pushing this storm that far west.
