6/29/24 - Beryl Forecasted To Become A Major Hurricane
Beryl is on the verge of hurricane status and should become one within the next 12-24 hours. Beryl is forecast to undergo rapid intensification & is anticipated to become an extremely rare early July major hurricane in the Caribbean. The NHC now forecasts the storm to be a major category 3 hurricane with winds near 115 mph when it passes through the Windward Islands Monday morning. Hurricane watches have been expanded and tropical storm watches issued as well. This storm will be dangerous for islands such as Barbados, Grenada & St. Lucia. Please use these next couple of days to make plans/preparations to protect life and property.
Overnight model data is trending tracking Beryl towards Mexico or Belize in just under a week as a weakening hurricane. At this time, the high-pressure ridge bringing the heat to the southern U.S. may remain strong enough to protect the gulf. Of course, this is not guaranteed, just how it looks today. The system BEHIND Beryl may have a slightly better chance of making the gulf but that is also too far out to know. We will keep watching of course! Please stay safe if you are along the forecasted path of Beryl.
