Tropical Depression 13 has formed in the central Atlantic. It will become Tropical Storm Lee within 24 hours and most likely a very powerful hurricane once it passes north of Puerto Rico. Currently, the overwhelming majority of ensembles forecast it will pass safely north of the Caribbean so that direct impacts are not likely. Interests in the Leewards Islands should monitor this storm in case it deviates from the projected path. Unfortunately, Bermuda could be in the direct path of a powerful major hurricane in 7-10 days. Also, southeast Canada may have to watch as some models show possible impacts. While it can’t be 100% ruled out, we do not currently see a weather pattern that gets this system all the way to the U.S. coastline. We have lots of time to watch how the forecast evolves.
