MON 8/17/15 9AM EDT - Invest 96L May Develop & Have a Short Life
We are currently following the first development threat of August. Invest 96L located in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean has a 70% chance of developing over the next five days according to the National Hurricane Center. Satellite imagery indicates the structure has improved since yesterday and there is excellent rotation associated with the invest. However, the system lacks deep convection near the center due to dry air to the north of the system being pulled into the circulation. Even though there is some dry air impacting the disturbance, the overall environment is favorable for a tropical depression or a tropical storm to form by mid week.
The disturbance will continue to move towards the west around 10 to 15 mph over the next several days. There is a pocket of dry air ahead of the storm which will be disruptive to intensification later this week. Please visit the Model Watch section of the Hurricane Tracker App to see what the major models are doing with this system as it moves west towards the Lesser Antilles.
At this time, there is no immediate threat to any land, but the system will be watched over the next week or so in case it's able to develop and strengthen. Please view the image below to see what the chances are of this system impacting land down the road. The next name on the list is Danny.
