SUN 10/12 2PM EDT - TS Gonzalo Forms, Headed Towards Puerto Rico As A Possible Hurricane

8PM EDT Update: Hurricane Watches have been posted for Puerto Rico & the US/British Virgin Islands as Gonzalo moves closer and is organizing.

Invest 90L has been upgraded to TS Gonzalo with 40 mph winds. TS Watches & Warnings have been issued for portions of the Caribbean Sea. Gonzalo is forecasted by the NHC to reach CAT 1 hurricane status on Tuesday as it nears Puerto Rico. There is some uncertainty with the intensity forecast as Gonzalo could be just a TS when it reaches PR, but preparations should be made based on the NHC forecast of Gonzalo becoming a CAT 1 hurricane.

Once Gonzalo passes near/over Puerto Rico, it is expected to be turned towards the north due to a front moving off the US east coast. There is no threat to the Bahamas or the US as Gonzalo will stay over the open waters once it passes the NE Caribbean Islands.
