The strong tropical wave that is emerging off of the Africa coast has been designated as Invest 96L. This wave will be watched closely for development during the next few days. So far, the computer models forecast this system to move NW out into the open Atlantic. Stay tuned here for detailed updates.

We continue to monitor a weak tropical wave over the central Atlantic. The atmosphere around this wave is not conducive for development as it is fighting wind shear and some dry air. No development is expected with the next few days. If the wave survives the hostile environment, it may need to be watched in the western Atlantic for development next week.

It appears this will be the 6th August in history with no hurricanes. Great news for coastal residents. An uptick in activity is still expected in September.
