Invest 98L Likely To Become Ernesto - 8/10/24 12PM EDT

A tropical wave over the central Atlantic has been tagged Invest 98L by the NHC. It currently has a high chance of development at 80%. Some gradual development is possible the next few days and especially as it nears the Lesser Antilles early next week. Areas in the eastern Caribbean could be dealing with tropical storm or hurricane Ernesto towards the early to middle portions of next week. After it passes near or through the Caribbean, it may turn north towards Bermuda or out to sea. At this time, chances are low that it would impact the U.S. coastline, but cannot be completely ruled out since it would be many days away and the storm hasn’t formed yet. Stay tuned for updates.

Invest 98L has become a little better organized in the last 24 hours.

High chance 98L could develop anywhere in the shaded region.

We have issued “Guarded” & “Elevated” 5 day alert levels for possible impacts early next week for portions of the NE Caribbean. See key below.

8/10/23 0Z EURO ensembles mostly show this system turning north next week and potentially impacting Bermuda. This is a long ways out and is subject to change. Some get 98L close to the Bahamas the SE U.S. coast. We will just have to wait and see what happens long term.
