TS Colin Has Formed In The Gulf of Mexico
Overview: TD 3 has been upgraded to TS Colin by the NHC and tropical storm warnings are in effect for portions of the Florida west coast from Indian Pass to Englewood. Tropical storm watches are in effect for portions of NE FL & GA coastlines. As of now, the system is somewhat disorganized as the strongest thunderstorms and winds are dislocated east of the broad low-level center. The NHC is forecasting Tropical Storm Colin to strengthen to 50 mph before landfall on the Florida coast tonight (big bend region). Upper level wind shear is expected to remain high and should keep Colin from being more than a moderate tropical storm. This will also allow the strongest winds and heaviest rain to be located to the east of the center. There is a very low chance that this storm will become a hurricane as atmospheric conditions are not favorable. There is some risk for heavy rainfall and tropical storm force winds along the GA, SC & NC coastlines. We will monitor the future forecasts.
