Earlier today Tropical Depression 7 formed off the African coast south of the Cape Verde Islands. This afternoon the depression organized into TS Grace, the 7th named storm of the season and the 4th in a row to form in the main development region of the Atlantic. Over the next few days, the environment ahead of the system is favorable to support some intensification. The NHC is only forecasting peak wind speeds to reach 60 mph in about three days. At this time, we do believe there is about a 30% chance Grace could become stronger than forecast and reach category one hurricane strength before weakening mid-later next week. Receive our detailed discussions via email as soon as they are published, please tap here.
At this time, the long-range outlook is for Grace to weaken significantly as it approaches the Lesser Antilles later next week. Since Danny & Erika, the upper air pattern has not changed much and this should cause moderate to strong wind shear to begin affecting the system by Wednesday or Thursday. The NHC even states that dissipation will possibly occur east of the Caribbean Sea. Please view our Long Range Impact Chances map below to see what the current chances are of Grace affecting land.
Please stay tuned here at the Hurricane Tracker App for frequent updates on TS Grace this weekend.
We highly recommend following our Twitter (hurrtrackerapp) for real time coverage as the system tracks westward and intensifies.
A new post will be issue sometime on Sunday afternoon, usually before 5PM EDT.
