Earlier today Tropical Depression 7 formed off the African coast south of the Cape Verde Islands. This afternoon the depression organized into TS Grace, the 7th named storm of the season and the 4th in a row to form in the main development region of the Atlantic. Over the next few days, the environment ahead of the system is favorable to support some intensification. The NHC is only forecasting peak wind speeds to reach 60 mph in about three days. At this time, we do believe there is about a 30% chance Grace could become stronger than forecast and reach category one hurricane strength before weakening mid-later next week. At this time, the long-range outlook is for Grace to weaken significantly as it approaches the Lesser Antilles later next week. Since Danny & Erika, the upper air pattern has not changed much and this should cause moderate to strong wind shear to begin affecting the system by Wednesday or Thursday.
