8/19/25 - Tropical Storm & Storm Surge Warnings Issued for NC Outer Banks

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the North Carolina Outer Banks from Beaufort Inlet to Duck. Also, a Storm Surge Warning has been issued for the North Carolina Outer Banks from Cape Lookout to Duck.

Storm surge flooding and tropical storm conditions are expected in the North Carolina Outer Banks beginning late Wednesday or Wednesday night, where Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Warnings are now in effect. The storm surge will be accompanied by large waves, leading to significant beach erosion and overwash, making some roads impassible.

Erin is expected to produce life-threatening surf and rip currents along the beaches of the Bahamas, much of the east coast of the U.S., Bermuda, and Atlantic Canada during the next several days.

Interests along the U.S. Mid-Atlantic and southern New England coasts and on Bermuda should also monitor the progress of Erin as strong winds are possible Thursday and Friday.

8/18/25 - Tropical Storm & Storm Surge Watch Issued For NC Outer Banks

Tropical storm conditions and coastal flooding are possible in the North Carolina Outer Banks beginning late Wednesday where Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Watches are in effect. Interests in Bermuda should also monitor the progress of Erin as strong winds are possible beginning on Thursday.

Erin is expected to produce life-threatening surf and rip currents along the beaches of the Bahamas, much of the east coast of the U.S., Bermuda, and Atlantic Canada during the next several days. Beachgoers in those areas should follow advice from lifeguards, local authorities, and beach warning flags.

8/16/25 - Erin Has Become a Powerful Major Hurricane

Erin has quickly strengthened into a major hurricane quicker that what was forecast. Erin is now a category 3 hurricane and is forecasted to become a category 4 later today. The storm will be passing north of the Caribbean this weekend. The outer bands of Erin are expected to produce areas of heavy rainfall through Sunday across the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches, with isolated totals of 6 inches, are expected. Locally considerable flash and urban flooding, along with landslides or mudslides, are possible.

Models now agree that Erin will pass well east of the Bahamas and the eastern U.S. seaboard. Erin is expected to produce dangerous surf and rip currents along the beaches of the Bahamas, much of the east coast of the U.S., and Atlantic Canada next week. Interests in Bermuda should continue to monitor the progress of Erin since there is a risk of strong winds, heavy rainfall, and high surf by the middle part of next week.
